Maintenance Treatment

Studies show that patients who have completed Active Periodontal Treatment and who follow through with the maintenance (recall) phase of therapy, will do better than those who do not maintain a regular schedule of recall appointments.

Non-compliant patients have a greater tendency to need further periodontal treatment and are more likely to have future tooth loss.

Your periodontist will help you determine the most beneficial interval for maintenance. This is usually every three or four months for the first year after active treatment. As you progress, changes in your frequency should be evaluated.

Discuss all of this with Dr. Sonnes, because every patient has distinctive needs.
